| We are Graham and Marion Whittley and we were both employed at SME in Steyning for well over twenty years. In 1998 we left the company and moved to Somerset where we started South West Analogue to specialize in selling the companies turntables and tonearms. With our twenty plus years working for ARA and with our unparalleled level of experience we have become known as The SME Specialist. In total we have thirty plus years experience of all things SME including the manufacturing, assembly, servicing and sales divisions and now of course we sell directly to our customers through our own company South West Analogue. |
SME was founded by Alastair-Roberston Aikman as a small family precision engineering company in a shed at the bottom of his parents garden in 1946. At this time he was manufacturing Scale Model Equipment which he later shortend to SME after his legendary Series1 pickup arm was released to great acclaim and the manufacture of tone-arms completely took over the business. With the addition of the Model 30 turntable SME have become the most respected name in the audio industry. The quality of their precision engineering is famous and much admired by by their competitors.
With features like the turntable main bearing being sealed for life, powerful DC motors which are more than adequate for the job plus the easily changed "O" ring system of the suspension these turntables are designed to give a life time of enjoyment with minimal maintenance.
SME are world famous for the quality of their precision engineering with everything possible being made at the SME factory at the foot of the south Downs in Sussex. SME`s extensive engineering facility is complimented by their own famous in house plating shop where Black and Bright chroming and Gold plating are just three of the many treatments available.
Sadly founder ARA passed away in October 2006 after a lengthy illness but his son Cameron has stepped into his fathers shoes and is maintaining the traditional SME values of innovation and the highest possible quality of precision engineering with class leading fit and finish plus and the after sales service that the company are renowned for.
SME have been producing precision engineered products for 65 years and the culmination of all this experience has led to the new top of the range Model 30/12A a massive statement of SME`s use of high-tech materials and techniques. No other audio manufacturer uses pressure die cast magnesium or the space age damping material Isodamp in their quest to minimise and control unwanted vibrations and resonances. To ensure perfect speed accuracy a high powered DC motor is used in conjunction with a computer controlled power supply complete with a lock on speed facility.
All SME turntables supplied by us are available with our optional Performance Package which can include factory fitted Pure Silver Litz internal wiring (this is standard on the Series V-12, 312S and 24 carat Gold plated tonearms), our own Pure Silver Litz or alternatively a Silver plated copper audio lead, 5mm "Cast" acrylic lift-off turntable cover and Silver plated copper mains lead with cryo-ed Furutech connectors.
