SME MODEL 10/A turntable
The SME Model 10 turntable utilizes a totally different concept to the rest of the range. Gone is the four point "O" ring suspension to be replaced by three towers, within each one is a polymer isolator which gives excellent isolation for this machine.

The platter and therefore virtually all of the turntable is just 12" in diameter, the size of an LP and is unusually cylindrical in shape. Their is an outrigger on the right hand side suitable for for fixing any SME 9" tonearm.
Weight is a hefty 15kg (33Ib) with the sub-chassis weighing 2.5kg, this is of cruciform configuration from which the three isolation towers with their polymer inserts provide the all important isolation from the 4.6kg base assembly. Three adjustable feet each with its own polymer insert give isolation and leveling.
The 4.1kg platter is damped top and bottom with Isodamp to eliminate ringing and unwanted resonances. The top face has the new Black Anthracite finish and is diamond turned with a fine scroll just the same as all of the other SME turntables. The nicely threaded record clamp then allows the LP to have perfect contact with the record, even those difficult warped ones.
The bearing is unusual for SME in that it is a tapered high chrome steel unit with a maximum diameter of 19.0mm which is ground and then superfinished to match with the taper bearing.
The DC motor is from the same family as its bigger brothers and is isolated on polymer inserts. The 8 bit computer controlled power supply again is an adaption of the one used by all the other SME turntables. The automatic locked to speed facility being a particularly attractive feature. With the recent updates to the power supply a 78 rpm facility has been added to fall in line with the rest of the range.
The RRP of the Model 10, turntable only is £2,878.88, £3,454.66 including VAT.
The RRP of the Model 10 which include a special version of the 309 tonearm is £3,874.35, £4,649.22 including VAT.
The Model 10 is an excellent turntable and any SME tone-arm from the M2-9 to the Series V can be fitted depending on budget.
