It would be very easy to regard the Series IV as a poor relation to the Series V, in fact it is an extremely able tone-arm in its own right. By utilizing the Series V one piece pressure die-cast magnesium tone-arm and bearing assemblies this ensures performance is certainly in the same league as its more expensive stable mate. Sonically the main differences are wiring related because the Series IV has a copper internal wiring which can be upgraded to either Series V Silver or the top of the range pure Silver Litz wire to endow it with a fuller more detailed sound.

SME SERIES IV
Bright chromed components along with a Silver enamel tone-arm are immediately apparent but extra cost can add a Black chrome finish and either with lines in Silver or Gold lines with decals to match, this gives a Series V or Series V GPD appearance. A detachable magnesium headshell version is optional for those who regularly like to change cartridges
The Series IV has a static balance system rather than the dynamic sprung loaded system of its big brother, so when balanced and the correct playing weight has been applied the counterweight system is closer to the pivot.
A full description can be found on the Series V page
With its Silver finish it is an ideal partner for the SME 10 turntable and with its optional Black finish it can also partner the Model 20/3 or even 30/2.
